Animal-Assisted Therapy
There is something special about the presence of an animal. They bring steady intuition that is free of judgment. Animal-assisted therapy offers a way to support emotional healing through connection, grounding, and gentle engagement.
In my practice, my therapy dog, Leonidas “Leo”, may be present during sessions as part of the therapeutic space. His presence can help create a sense of calm, safety, and ease. This is especially helpful for those who feel anxious or guarded in traditional settings.
Animal-assisted therapy may be supportive if you:
Experience anxiety or heightened stress
Feel more at ease with nonverbal connection
Have difficulty opening up in traditional talk therapy
Benefit from grounding and sensory-based support
Are working through trauma or emotional overwhelm
Leo’s role is not structured. He simply exists as a calming, supportive, and sometimes humorous presence. Clients are always welcome to engage with him as much or as little as they’d like.
Your comfort is important. If you prefer not to have Leo involved in your sessions, accommodations can be made to create space and distance.
If you are interested in animal-assisted therapy, I would be happy to talk more about whether this approach feels like a good fit for you.
